New reel . . .

I've re-cut my reel, finally. Good grief, that's no fun. I had a small break in the schedule, so I spent a couple of days throwing stuff together from the last year or so . . . Of course, as always, there are 3 or 4 things that I would love to put in there, but yet can't because of legal reasons (or they're not quite done). Say la vee.
I've also been backing up my drives so a bum drive doesn't kill ALL of my stuff. Now I'm up to 7 drives counting the one in my G4. It's becoming a bit of a tangle. Since I work at home a lot, I end up with mega files to backup. Seems to me that one BIG drive is easier, but puts you more at risk. So I have lots, which is super confusing. Any thoughts on a better way?
BTW, I'd also love to hear crits on the reel (it's a generalist reel for commercial/design work here in NYC). The link is here.
For some reason I'm getting a weird white box around the quicktime, but only Firefox. Not sure why. Any help there would be nice too. Mike?

Peace and Happy New Years! Hopefully I'll get post some more fun stuff soon, though I've got a job (I think) for the next few weeks, so we'll see. Just for goofs here some concept art via Richy for the next Ilksville:

  1. For storage, you should look into a NAS like the Netgear ReadyNAS or the Drobo. They costs more up front, but it's a great investment, redundant drives, massive storage space, solves your dealing with multiple external drives issues, without the worries of a single drive failure killing all your data. I'd say look into the Drobo, since it fits really well into what we do. The ReadyNAS which I've been using since I moved out to LA, has been awesome, but does require a little extra investment in network gear if you don't already have a gigE switch.

The reel looks good, I think it can be a bit tighter, you can loose some of the projects towards the end.

  2. Thanks homey. Don't know what a gigE switch is, so I'll leave that be and check out the Drobo. . . Hope the new year is treating you well.

  3. Reel looks good. I'd consider shortening it a little. I'm not sure if I lost interest or if the quality of work got worse towards the end.

I'd try to keep around 1:30 max, but what do I know. I don't even have a reel.

Peace man. Happy New Year! That beer we had was great! :)

  4. Thanks Mike. I kind of knew that, what you and K both said . . . By the time Keith mentioned it, I'd already recut it, shortened it by about 50 seconds (to about 1:45), but am just waiting to see if I can get a hold of any of the holdout projects (nickelodeon, Nokia, etc) before I post it. I'll probably repost something on my site, this weekend.
Yeah, 2008 was not a good year for beers. I'm working the next few weeks in midtown (til 6ish). You around for an early beer in Jan?
